The epic "Young Russia" by Yuri German tells about the time of unprecedented changes in Russia - the era of Peter I. The great Lomonosov, a native of Pomorye - the same places mentioned in the novel - found the... king to be "like God": "his spirit breathes - and the waters flow, touches the mountains - and they rise." But the people who feel that spirit must be strong! Such are the main characters of the novel: Pomor-caterer Ivan Ryabov and the royal squire Silvester Ievlev. Life draws them into a turbulent whirlpool of events, demanding difficult decisions in the desire to serve both the Motherland and to not betray themselves, their essence. "Young Russia" has a hard time: the capricious king spares no one, people perish in the inhumane conditions of the first "great constructions"; both local and visiting officials unrestrainedly steal; external threats are inevitably exacerbated in response to the growth of Russian power; visiting teachers of shipbuilding, exact sciences compete with the slow Pomors and their age-old wisdom… The novel "Young Russia" has inspired a famous multi-episode film (1981-1982).
