This story is about the sea. About mysterious sea creatures and fierce pirates. About the Black House, where, according to rumors, a monster lives. About a lighthouse - a tall gray tower standing on a small peninsula. About a dreamer named Emilia, nicknamed Lampyoshka, the daughter of the lighthouse keeper, who climbs a steep spiral staircase every day to light the fire. About one fateful evening, where it all begins, when a storm rages at sea, and Lampyoshka, as luck would have it, runs out of matches…
A romantic, fairy-tale, sometimes scary, but very kind story has become the literary debut of renowned Dutch artist Annette Schap. She won the hearts of readers and critics alike and was awarded the highest prize in the Netherlands for children's literature - the "Golden Pencil" award in 2018.
The book has become very popular in the Netherlands - its audiobook version has already been released, a play is expected in Rotterdam in the fall of 2019, and a teenage series is in the works. Rights for publication have been sold to several European countries.
