The author, exploring the history of his repressed ancestors, uncovered the full chain of executors of the Great Terror in a particular region — the Republic of the Germans of the Volga, from the investigator to the firing squad.

At the beginning of this historical investigation, there were only signatures under protocols and orders; at the end — complete biographies of the executors of mass murders on behalf of the state.

Most of them were previously completely unknown, and their documents and photographs are being published for the first time.
