These and many other questions are posed by the main character of the story "Fear of Smell" - the Grandson. He is lonely, lives in Bonn. He dreams of family and happiness. During the pandemic, he unexpectedly begins to explore the history of his Grandfather - a Volga German who survived land confiscation, long wanderings, and a labor camp. The Grandfather tells the story of his life. He tells it very simply, without embellishing or dramatizing. The narrative lives with two characters. Two lines of storytelling move from different points towards each other, touch at some points, and even intertwine.
