Wisdom of Runes

The purpose of this book is to introduce the reader to a divination system based on twenty-five runic symbols as they were known to the Saxons and Scandinavians. Runes are examined in a historical and esoteric context to demonstrate their profound significance as milestones on the spiritual path and their use as a magical tool in practices of meditation, mindfulness, and psychic development. The use of runes in divination and magical-religious purposes
was the prerogative of shamans, who wore special costumes and held a privileged position in society. Diviners (as well as divineresses, since there were quite a few women involved in the runic art) believed that each rune corresponded to the power of a specific element. Runes could be carved on wood, stone, bone, and drawn on parchment, and the reader will also find several examples of creating a runic set in this book. Michael Howard (United Kingdom) was the editor of The Cauldron magazine from 1976 until his death in 2015. He wrote numerous articles for other occult and neo-pagan magazines, and published over thirty-five books on runes, witchcraft, angelic magic, folklore, herbal remedies, and occult parapolitics since the 1970s.
