Voroshilov's Fire

For the recent graduate and, since February 1942, front-line translator Elena Kagan, the martyr city of Rzhev became a "fate, a literary name, an unresolved pain." From her then-recorded notes on the go, vivid impressions, and stories from soldiers, village old women and children, and captured Germans, the story "The Near Approaches" was born.
