The educational manual has been developed in accordance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard for Primary General Education, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation No. 286 dated 31.05.2021. The educational manual and three workbooks included in the UMC system "Primary School of the 21st Century" constitute a complete set of educational materials for teaching first graders literacy, reading, and writing. The course is based on the ideas of D. B. Elkonin. A distinctive feature of the educational manual and workbooks is a special focus on the formation of educational activities. The significantly increased preparatory period ensures a smooth adaptation of six-year-old students to learning, introduces them to the language reality, and prepares the child's hand for writing. Working with the second part of the educational manual "Russian Language. Primer", which is part of the UMC system "Primary School of the 21st Century", is aimed at developing and enhancing reading skills in first graders. It includes texts of literary works that are accessible for study in the post-primer period. The main task at this stage is to develop students' speech and thinking, as well as to instill in them an interest and love for independent reading. A lesson in literary listening is held once a week.
