The Letter of the Dalai Lama

1907. Karelin arrives in Kyakhta to meet the crew of the international rally "Peking-Paris" at the border with China, led by Prince Borghese. However, a fire breaks out at the warehouse with gasoline meant for the racers. Someone is clearly trying to hinder the leading car's progress, and Karelin takes on the investigation.

When Aglaya, the niece of the governor-general, learns about the problems faced by Borghese's crew, she rushes to help with her characteristic selflessness and curiosity, unaware that she herself is getting into trouble.

Meanwhile, Kyakhta is torn apart by mysterious incidents, and Karelin understands that the turmoil in the city is caused not by local smugglers but by much more serious forces. He has just a few days left to uncover the conspiracy, save Aglaya, and escape from the city alive.
