This collection includes six stories by Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin – a classic of Russian literature, who not only had a wonderful talent for describing Russian nature but also loved animals incredibly much. The writer himself took care of animals and birds, observed them, and learned more about their habits and character. Each dog, cat, horse, or bird has a "special soul, just like humans," Kuprin believed.
"Animals have a lot of their own, incomprehensible wisdom to people" – the writer tells us in this book. And he invites readers to meet those who often turn out to be kinder, smarter, braver, and more loyal than humans: the proud cat Yu-Yu, capable of the gentlest friendship, and the shy but desperately brave little dog Zhulka, with the meek and incredibly polite elephant Zambo, who one spring day went for a walk in Moscow, and with the well-known birds, the starlings – whose lives are wonderful and full of adventures and dangers.
Illustrations for these touching stories about animals were created by the wonderful artist Tatyana Vladimirovna Shishmeryova, whose soft graphic drawings inspire warmth and tenderness towards our smaller brothers.
