Sacred Quests: The Role of Religion and Mythology in Video Games

Video games and religion are two worlds that intersect much more deeply than they seem at first glance. On the screen, we fight monsters that come from religious texts and ancient myths, we protect, seduce, or destroy gods—sometimes we even take on their role. We build luxurious virtual temples, lead holy wars, and reconcile warring groups of believers, uncover the secrets of forbidden cults, and reconstruct forgotten religious texts.
This book is an invitation to dive into the mysterious and multifaceted world of the sacred in games and to understand how and why myths and religion influence narrative and gameplay, and most importantly, how through virtual quests deep meanings are revealed that shape us ourselves.
