Welcome to Amsterdam! Take on the role of influential merchants in Amsterdam at the end of the 19th century. Your businesses will produce goods that the Netherlands is famous for: such as Dutch cheese, lace, crystal, and ceramic tiles. Deliver finished products to port warehouses for sale in all corners of the world. Enhance your reputation and prestige through successful trade, expanding your influence in the city, and forming strategic alliances with influential officials. Use resources to activate cards, acquire residential quarters, and deliver goods to warehouses on your barges.
The most talented and far-sighted merchant will be able to maximize their prestige.
«Amsterdam» — this is the second game in the «City Collection» series by Stefan Feld, a true maestro in the world of board games.
«Amsterdam» — this is a game with deep gameplay and interesting mechanics. One of the key elements of the game is the unusual use of the rondel for obtaining resources: most of the resources you will receive not immediately, but after a certain number of rounds. Another important game mechanic is the use of cards in the most efficient way to gain additional resources, bonuses, and victory points. Without tactics and a plan, winning this game is almost impossible. The game's author considers «Amsterdam» to be one of the most challenging games in the entire series.
For those who want to diversify the game even more, the box contains 6 small expansions that provide a new gaming experience, as well as solo mode rules.

How to play?
The game lasts for 12 rounds. Each round consists of 4 phases.
Phase I: Card Drawing
Reveal the required number of cards from the corresponding stacks on the round board depending on the number of players. In turn order, each player must choose 1 of the revealed cards and place it in one of the slots at the bottom of their player board. This card is currently inactive, but can be activated later.
If a player takes a card and must place it, but all 5 slots at the bottom of the board are occupied, they must choose and discard one of their 6 cards and take a penalty token from the general supply.
Phase II: Resource Gathering
The first player rolls all 6 dice simultaneously. Players in turn order choose any 2 dice (the decisions of other players do not limit your choice). The player takes resources from the general supply of the colors of the chosen dice in a quantity equal to the values rolled on those dice and places the acquired resources in the rondel slots that correspond to the values of the chosen dice.
Then, players rotate the spinning part of the rondel counterclockwise by one notch and take from the rondel all resources that ended up in the slot with the arrow to their personal resource supply.
Phase III: Performing Actions
In turn order, each player performs available actions in any sequence and combination. Phase III ends after the last player has performed all their actions.
Players have the following actions available.
- Activate cards by paying the indicated resources and moving the card to the spot above their player board.
- Use an activated card by placing an action token on it.
- Purchase a residential quarter by paying resources of the required color to receive a good, which is temporarily placed in the player's warehouse.
- Load goods onto a barge, with the barge being at the central dock or on the pier.
- Move their barge by paying any resources to deliver goods to warehouses or packing sheds, as well as delivering dock workers to the needed piers.
- Sell goods on the black market.
- Move the Amstel token, whose position in the river relative to other tokens determines the turn order.
- Apply the effect of the market token, most of which allow you to buy additional points or receive another bonus.
Phase IV: End of Round
A player can keep only 1 resource by sending it to their storehouse. Any unused resources from players' personal supplies are returned to the general supply. Players remove action tokens from cards whose effects they used in the completed round. The round counter token moves to the next notch, and the next market token is revealed.
The game ends after Phase III of the 12th round (Phase IV is skipped). If a player has cards remaining in the slots at the bottom of their player board, they must take a penalty token for each of those cards.
Then, the final scoring begins. This considers penalty tokens, effects of cards "at the end of the game", the largest group of neighboring quarters of the player, superiority in certain areas, remaining goods of the player, guilders, resources, and dock workers.
The player with the most prestige points is declared the winner.
