Long live Jidada with «-yes» and another «-yes»! Long live the Father of the Nation! May he rule forever! Yesterday and today, tomorrow and forever. But when will his eternity end — what will happen then?
The Old Horse, the long-time... leader of Jidada, is overthrown by his closest associates, and the country breathes a sigh of relief: now there is hope that life will finally get better. Exiles who once fled from repression are returning to their homeland, among them is the Fate of Lozikeia Kumalo. She feels a void in her soul, left by her dead, about whom she is even unaware. However, everyone in Jidada knows that the dead are not dead.
As is often the case, the new boss is no better than the old boss: corruption and lawlessness still reign in the country, dissenters are still persecuted, people are tormented by poverty, unemployment, shortages, and endless lines. But freedom and dignity are worth fighting for; hope is not so easily killed, and the dead speak louder and louder...
«Glory», a finalist for the Booker Prize 2022, is a political novel in the genre of magical realism, a parable, an allegory, satire, and a report from the hot trails. Here, the voices of folk storytellers intertwine with the «couch experts» from social media. The echoes of George Orwell's «Animal Farm» and Art Spiegelman's «Maus», Gabriel Garcia Marquez's «Chronicle of a Death Foretold», Junot Diaz's «The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao», and «Bojack Horseman» resonate here. This story is inspired by events in Zimbabwe but could happen anywhere.
