What could be common between a lonely old man and a teenage girl named after a heroine of a novel, if they are not relatives and do not even know each other? Leo Gursky has been living in New York... for the last 50 years, having managed to escape from occupied Poland. His only valuable possession – a manuscript of a novel written as a confession of love to the beautiful Alma – he entrusted to a friend before parting, whom he has never heard from since. Convicted,
that he has lost not only the manuscript and a friend but also his beloved girl, he masters the craft of locksmithing and lives a modest and inconspicuous life of an ordinary worker, not even suspecting what surprise fate has in store for him at the sunset of his days.
