Agnes Corey, a young editor at a small publishing house, receives an invitation from the mysterious writer Veronica St. Clare — to help her record the continuation of the... legendary novel "The Secret of the Stormy Pass," released thirty years ago and became a real sensation. Since then, St. Clare has led a reclusive life: the publication of the novel coincided with a devastating fire, after which she went blind.
 
Agnes arrives at an ancient estate in the Hudson Valley — once a psychiatric hospital for "lost women", now a gloomy and mysterious residence of the writer. Soon, she starts finding hidden hints in the manuscript about real, frightening events that inspired St. Clare's first novel. The line between fiction and truth gradually blurs, and an unsolved crime from the past unexpectedly takes on personal significance for Agnes herself. The deeper she plunges into someone else's story, the stronger she feels the threat — both to her life and her sanity.
 
To understand where the novel ends and the truth begins, Agnes will have to uncover what the walls of the Stormy Pass actually hide — and why these secrets are so carefully guarded.
