«The Yellow Wallpaper» — a story by American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman, first published in January 1892 in the magazine «New England». The novel is considered an important early work of American women's literature about attitudes towards women's health in... the 19th century. It is also highly regarded as a work in the horror genre.
 
The story is written in the form of a collection of diary entries, told from the first person perspective. A recently born woman, whose husband-doctor rented an old mansion for the summer, is in an uneasy state due to the horrific yellow wallpaper left in the nursery on the second floor. The heroine cannot bear the sight of this wallpaper, she hallucinates various disturbing images, and we gradually immerse ourselves in her condition.
