In one of London’s green neighborhoods, everyone knows Ellie Quick from the charity shop. Recently widowed, she spends her days staring out the window. One evening, Mrs. Dowse, who is not easily rattled, literally bursts into Ellie’s home. But there is a good reason for that – a body in front of the church altar…
The police and the mother of the deceased are convinced that on the night of the murder, Ellie saw much more than she is saying. But the poor woman cannot understand what they are getting at. Fending off the overly persistent attention of the pastor, who loves to take care of newly minted widows, she decides to protect her neighbor, who has become the main suspect, from the detectives and to uncover the truth.
Only Ellie doesn’t know that she should be careful. They are already watching her and setting a trap…
