«Dinka» — is a bright and inspiring story...
by Valentina Osieeva, telling about the childhood of a ten-year-old girl — her tears and joys, fears and little feats. The main character — honest and open Dinka — spends the summer with her mother and sisters in a house on the banks of the Volga, in Samara. Independent and curious, she often runs off to play by the river. And one day the Volga introduces her to Lyonka — an orphan working on the ferry for a cruel master. Thus, Dinka gains a true friend.
«Dinka says goodbye to childhood» - the continuation of the duology about the Arsenyev family.
The main character — the same sincere and distinctive Dinka, but now a teenager. The fifteen-year-old gymnasium student arrives for the summer at the dacha — not on the Volga, but in a small village near Kyiv. The Arsenyev family is going through hard times: the father is sentenced to ten years in prison, the mother has lost her job; Vasiliy, the fiancé of the middle sister, has been taken to the First World War; the elder sister Alina, after getting married, went to Siberia. The grown-up Dinka faces more responsibilities, and although there are rare glimpses of joy in her life, nothing comes easy, and even for personal happiness, she will have to fight. The girl faces a difficult choice: two people dear to her heart, childhood friends — Andrey and Lyonya — confess their love to her.
A largely autobiographical book by Valentina Osieeva tells of strong friendship and loyalty, devotion to loved ones and a common cause. Dinka learns to cope with the difficulties of growing up, to help others, and to make important decisions, but not for a second does the girl lose the feeling that life promises much good, bright, and extraordinary.
