Black Heart

In an Alpine village where only two people live, Emilia appears. This slender young woman climbed up here from the valley along a goat path to settle far from people. Who is she, and what brought her to the remote Sassai? — Bruno, her neighbor, school teacher, and narrator of this story, wonders. The heroes fall in love with each other. In Emilia's dim eyes, Bruno sees a dark abyss similar to the one he carries within himself. They are both lonely, both have experienced evil: he was once its victim, she once committed it, paying a high price and still not having alleviated her sense of guilt. However, time puts everything in its place and offers a chance for redemption.
