Vladimir Dal devoted his life to creating the "Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language." For half a century, he collected Russian words, proverbs, sayings, and, of course, fairy tales. It was said that Vladimir Dal single-handedly "recorded more... fairy tales than the entire geographical society." The scientist decided to publish children's collections of fairy tales in his old age and dedicated them to his grandchildren. The books were titled: "The First First for the Semi-literate Granddaughter" and "Another First. For the Literate Granddaughter with Illiterate Brothers." From these books, children learned about the girl Snow Maiden, the mischievous crow, the toothy mouse, the wealthy sparrow, the thieving goat, and the foolish sheep. Seven fairy tales are included in this book.
