Warriors

Since its first publication in 1949, the historical duology "Warriors" has gone through more than twenty reprints. Devoting two decades to the study of the period of "youth and early age" of the Russian state, writer, journalist, and researcher of... ancient Russian literature Alexey Kuzmich Yuvov managed to create expressive, voluminous, and vibrant images of two historical figures, unparalleled in their significance for the history of Russia: Daniel of Galicia and Alexander Nevsky.
In a time of severe trials, power fell into the hands of princes Daniel Romanovich and Alexander Yaroslavich: the invasion of the Golden Horde marked the beginning of a heavy burden of yoke, brutal devastation of settlements, and centuries of bitter dependence. It was also restless on the western borders, from where the troops of skilled crusader warriors were advancing… The princes see different benefits for the Russian land, but in essence they are united: no matter how many trials are sent upon its suffering expanses, "Strong is Rus – it will overcome all".
In Yuvov's narrative is a lyrical portrait of ancient Russian land, the peculiarities of architecture, the charm of folk poetry, the richness of language, customs, rituals, and ceremonies – knowledge of them has been drawn from many years of studying historical sources. But also – the unchanging beauty of Russian landscapes over the centuries and, in the events of long-gone days, echoes of wars only recently survived by contemporaries.
