The Girls

Boris Vasilyevich Bedny - a Soviet writer, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, taught at the Literary Institute in the Higher Literary Courses (among his students are many renowned writers, such as Chinghiz Aitmatov). Boris Bedny gained fame with... the story "The Girls," translated into fifteen foreign languages and adapted into the titular film. The film "The Girls," directed by Yuri Chulyukin in 1961, is well-known in Russia, featuring prominent roles by Nadezhda Rumyantseva and Nikolai Rybnnikov. This cheerful comedy about love in a remote Ural logging village not only won the hearts of viewers across the Soviet Union but also received several prestigious awards at international film festivals. However, the story "The Girls" differs in many ways from the famous film: the characters' traits are explored more deeply, the harsh life in the distant village is portrayed significantly more realistically, and there are even substantial differences in the plot.
