The name of the English writer Daphne du Maurier (1907–1989) is known all over the world. Throughout her long creative life, she published one and a half dozen novels, several collections of short stories, plays, biographies, and a book about... Cornwall, where most of her life took place and where many of her plots unfold. However, the writer's business card forever became two works that inspired Alfred Hitchcock to create the eponymous film thrillers: the novel "Rebecca" and the novella "Birds." The collection of stories, later named after this famous novella, was published in 1952: six completely different, but equally captivating stories that can be considered classic examples of du Maurier's original style. In addition to these works that make up the author's collection, the publication also includes the long-untranslated into Russian short story "Happy Christmas" (1940).
