Real dacha life developed in Russia at the end of the 19th century. In our book, we traced the path of the formation of dacha culture from its birth to the present day.
Did dacha owners always work only for pleasure...
and rest whenever they wanted? And if at first the dacha was a place exclusively for rest and entertainment, where literary, theatrical, and musical evenings took place, then since the mid-20th century it has often been plots designated solely for growing crops. It was only in the late twentieth century that dachas were once again taken over by hammocks, wicker chairs, flower beds, long tea parties on the terrace, and simply "doing nothing".
But our book is not a dry presentation of facts! Interesting, funny stories, family secrets, customs, how people lived at the dacha for more than a hundred years. Finally, a real team of incorrigible dreamers and tearaways will run through the plots with readers throughout the entire book and vividly show what is so good about this dacha. We will visit great-grandmothers and find out whether they worked hard or just danced. Then we will drop by grandfathers, learn why they disliked the Colorado beetle. And then – to the childhood of dads and moms! Did they really swing on swings, fool around, and eat unwashed strawberries? We won't forget the dacha surroundings: fields, forests, rivers, and lakes, where adventures also did not go unnoticed. And of course, we will play charades, "the fly", pétanque, and find out what this "phenomenon" is – the children's dacha garden.
Bright, lively illustrations by the talented artist Olesya Gonsserovskaya will convey the characteristic features of dacha life and the special color of each historical period.
