Welcome to the "Far Shore"! In this standalone tabletop game from the "Everdell" series, new interesting adventures await you. Over the course of three seasons, you will lead a team of workers. With their help, you will build a thriving city and explore the enchanting ocean beyond. But only brave and wise captains can shoulder this task: managing the ship requires careful planning of your actions to adapt to changing winds and stay on course. Hurry to reach the distant shores of picturesque islands before they are washed away by the waves of the restless ocean!
"Everdell: Far Shore" expands on the idea of its "big brother," adding new mechanics to the game and slightly transforming the familiar ones. For example, thanks to the anchors, you no longer need to wait for a suitable building card to place a worker there, but you only have 3 anchors for the entire game. Moving the ship along the maritime route is aided by playing cards. What kind? This is determined by the compass rose, which changes its direction several times during the game. Additionally, identical cards that appear on the market are now stacked instead of taking up individual space – you will always have 8 different cards to choose from!
To create your own coastal city, you need a team. And you have one! Each player starts the game with two workers in hand, one is placed on the ship, and three more are placed on the lighthouse – they will become available to you later.
Your goal is to earn the most victory points. They are awarded for cards in your city, for prosperity cards, as well as for earned tokens, treasures, and parchments. But let’s go in order. On your turn, you can perform one of three actions:
- Place a worker
- Play a card
- Prepare for a new season
- A free worker can be sent to any available location. Coastal locations provide resources and cards. Island locations also provide resources with cards and can sometimes be more profitable, however, they may be inaccessible due to high tides. At the docks, you can discard cards from your hand in exchange for resources, and at the watchpoint in exchange for new cards. You can also send a worker to a location card in your city to apply its ability, as well as to the dunes to obtain parchment.
If you have already occupied all your workers with tasks, you can play cards on your turn, not only from your hand but also from the bay. To do this, you need to pay the resources indicated on the left side of the card title and place it face up in front of you – congratulations, you just expanded your city! And if you want to play a character card but lack resources, use the help of anchors: by spending one such token, you can place the character in your city for free! However, you only have 3 anchors for the entire game. Additionally, when you play a card that matches one of the wind rose tokens, your ship moves along the maritime route.
And when you can no longer send workers to locations or play a card, it’s time to prepare for the next season: gather all your workers from the field, take an additional worker from the lighthouse, and receive the reward for the new season. The last player to prepare for spring and autumn changes the wind rose tokens, and the last one to prepare for summer applies the effect of high tides and sinks 2 random island locations.
If at the end of the autumn season you can no longer or do not want to do anything, you can end the game. In this case, you skip all your subsequent turns and simply wait until the last participant of the game ends it in a similar manner. After that, all players count their victory points, and the one who has scored the most wins!
