The inventive thought in the Soviet Union developed in a peculiar way. It was encouraged in selected fields – space, military, science – and practically ignored in everyday life. In other words, we made significant breakthroughs in rocket engineering and... fundamental research, but seriously lagged behind in everything related to daily life, from vacuum cleaners to cars. This book has two objectives. The first is to tell about the inventions made by our compatriots during the Soviet period as objectively as possible, neither diminishing nor exaggerating their merits; the second is to show invention in the USSR in a context that explains its unique path. And yes, of course, – to dispel numerous myths associated with the history of invention.
