The Master and Margarita

The work on "The Master and Margarita," his main novel, was continued by M. A. Bulgakov until his death, but he never completed the editing. This "incompleteness" (although the author's concept is considered fully realized by researchers analyzing numerous drafts... and revisions of the novel) is related to the difficulties in establishing the final version. The text published in this edition is the result of many years of textological work by Bulgakov scholar E. Yu. Kolyshova, who based it on the typewritten text of 1938 with the editing system of 1938–1940, but took into account the author's last creative will, excluding fragments that Bulgakov crossed out (for example, part of the thirteenth chapter, which describes the story of the Master’s acquaintance and friendship with Aloysius Mogarich). The edition is supplemented with conceptual illustrations by A. P. Karapetyan and a preface by Slava Sergeev.
