Don Quixote

Having read too many chivalric novels and slightly exhausted from insufficient time spent in the fresh air, a broke nobleman at the sunset of his life decides to become a wandering knight and repeat the feats of his favorite literary... heroes. Having acquired rusty armor and saddled a lame horse, the nobleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, accompanied by his loyal servant Sancho Panza, sets off on a journey. However, reality is different from his fantasies, and the Knight of the Sad Countenance, as his servant dubbed him, inevitably finds himself in ridiculous situations: he challenges a flock of sheep, frees captured bandits, or suffers defeats in battles against windmills. Initially conceived as a parody of chivalric romances, 'Don Quixote' has been translated into all major languages of the world and included in the 'World Library' as the 'best book of all times and peoples.' This edition of 'Don Quixote' is presented in the translation by Boris Engelhardt.
