Requiem. Hallucination
On a hot July Sunday, an unnamed narrator travels through Lisbon. Along the way, he encounters various people, some of whom are real, while others exist only in his memories. He visits cafes, hotels, travels to the suburbs, and at... the end of the day meets with an unnamed poet, easily recognizable as Fernando Pessoa. This text partially resembles a travelogue, partially a gastronomic guide to Portugal, balancing between the hallucinatory and the real, between implicit fantasies and detailed descriptions of places and dishes. It is no coincidence that Antonio Tabucchi wrote this novel in Portuguese, as this text pays homage to the country and city that have become dear to him.
