Martin Eden

"Martin Eden" was written by Jack London during a journey on his own schooner "Snark" across the Pacific Ocean in 1907-1908.
In many ways autobiographical, this novel tells the difficult fate of a young man from the lower classes.
Facts from the author's own life are woven into the story of the main character: sailing on a ship as a sailor, working as a laundress in a laundry, meeting a girl from an intelligent family, as well as sleepless nights over manuscripts and books.
