In post-war Japan, the main entertainment for the spectacle-starved audience becomes the circus, and its main attraction — aerial gymnasts. The genius vaulter Ryunosuke captivates the audience with incredible tricks. His face, prominently displayed on all posters, is known to every admirer of circus art. However, neither the audience nor the gymnast's partners know what compels him to risk his life every day, and what unquenchable sorrow devours the young man from within.
