Joel Chandler Harris (1848–1908) was an American writer, folklorist, and journalist. In his youth, he lived for several years on a plantation, where he heard many amusing animal tales from African American slaves. Thanks to these stories, the famous "Uncle... Remus' Tales" eventually emerged, making their author renowned worldwide. In total, J. C. Harris wrote about two hundred tales. This collection includes eighteen of them. The Russian translation of "Uncle Remus' Tales" was first published in 1936, translated by Mikhail Gershenzon. Since then, it has been regularly reissued in this translation, continuing to delight generation after generation of readers.
