"Dune: War for Arrakis" is a strategic game set in the fantastic world of Frank Herbert, depicted in the "Dune" saga. You will fight for the planet Arrakis, a sandy and inhospitable place, but extremely important, as only here can...
you find melange – the main resource upon which galactic politics and economy depend. Each of the warring sides has its strengths and weaknesses, and you will have to take this into account when formulating your strategy. Approach the choice of your actions wisely and thoughtfully, deploy your units, harness the power of your house, beware of sandworms, scout the environment, and train your soldiers – only a comprehensive approach will help you outplay your opponent.
Each round is divided into conditional phases. In each phase, the sides perform the functions available to them. In the first phase – the Deployment phase – Harkonnen deploys their machinery on the board: harvesters, cargo ships (which will help the house collect melange), and ornithopters (which can be used for quick troop movement).
Then comes the second stage – the Action phase. It is considered the most important because this is where you will showcase your mastery of strategy and planning. You will roll action dice, and depending on what comes up, you will be able to play a certain card. There are 6 types of cards: strategy action, command, deployment, mentat, house, and desert power, available only to Atreides. During this stage, you can enter into open confrontation, deprive the enemy of advantage by destroying their machinery, redeploy your troops, or place fresh blood on the board, among other things.
When both sides have completed their turns, the Desert Danger phase begins, active only for House Atreides. You will have the opportunity to place worm tracks on the board, which when turned over will yield certain effects. At best – you can use the worm to attack an enemy formation (and you can also move on the worms).
The fourth stage, Spice Harvesting, returns the turn to Harkonnen – at this moment they can collect precious melange, and the amount will depend on the actions played earlier. Be careful: spice points are a strategically important aspect that allows the house to maintain its superiority, and if you lose the opportunity to harvest melange, it will complicate the combat situation for your side.
Throughout the round, you will take turns, regularly refreshing cards in search of the best ones that will allow you to snatch victory from the enemy's hands. Calmly assess the importance of the elements at your disposal, and don't forget to utilize special abilities and tokens that can radically change the course of the battle.
There is also a mode in the game for 3 and 4 players, where you share power with a friend who has the opportunity to independently control allied troops. And in case you prefer to explore the world of "Dune: War for Arrakis" on your own, there is also a solo mode included – thus, everyone will find something for themselves.
The side that fulfills its house's objective first wins. Harkonnen must score 10 superiority points, while Atreides must meet certain conditions in each of the three types of prescience points according to the information specified on the secret objective card that you will take at the beginning of the game.
