Penguins have a bad publicist. Sometimes they are said to hide their fat bodies in the cliffs, and sometimes they need the help of volunteers to lift them up while looking up at the passing planes. Clumsy, funny, stupid. But... this is only because people found it convenient to shoot only in good weather, for a few months a year. In reality, the fact that they survive and raise chicks in -60 degrees where no one else could survive is a miracle. For the first time, capturing the entire cycle of their dramatically full life was accomplished by the Briton Lindsay McRae, who lived almost a year at a polar station making a documentary for the BBC. This book showcases (including through photos) the majestic emperor penguins from entirely different perspectives. Touching and loyal pairs, caring parents, journeys of tens of kilometers in polar night, teamwork to fight the dreadful cold and wind, and almost childlike curiosity about humans.
