Dictation is one of the primary methods of teaching proper writing to consolidate skills and check students' knowledge. Dictation quickly and clearly shows the level of mastery of the educational material by schoolchildren. Summary is a written retelling of a listened or read text. A summary is the most effective exercise in developing coherent speech in younger schoolchildren. The summary teaches the basic skills of working with the text, activating the child's cognitive and creative activities.
The manual offers texts for writing dictations and summaries, selected with consideration of the age characteristics of younger schoolchildren: accessible for reading and understanding, with a clear narrative plot and spelling rules studied in the 4th grade.
For working with the texts, the manual presents 5 options for various tasks. Students are invited to: determine the type of text, title the text, divide the text into meaningful parts, fill in the missing words, find synonyms/antonyms, complete sentences, create a plan for the text, invent a continuation of the text, write a text from dictation, write a summary according to the plan, as well as creative tasks: invent a continuation of the text, create a crossword or riddle with vocabulary words, introduce their description of nature into the text, find an appropriate proverb or saying for the text, create their own dictionary, etc.
