«Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets» — the second book in the Harry Potter series by British writer Joanne Rowling.

Before the start of the school year, Harry receives a warning from the house-elf Dobby: returning to Hogwarts is dangerous. Despite this, he decides to go back to school, where strange events soon begin to occur — ominous inscriptions appear on the walls, and students are found petrified one by one. The legend says that a Secret Chamber is hidden in the castle, opened by the heir of Slytherin.

Suspicion falls on Harry, as he discovers a rare gift within himself — the ability to speak with snakes. Along with Ron and Hermione, he tries to uncover the mystery, learns of the existence of an ancient monster, and finds Tom Riddle's diary, which contains a part of his personality. In the finale, Harry descends into the Chamber of Secrets, battles the basilisk, and destroys the diary — one of Voldemort's Horcruxes.
