The War of the End of the World

Antonio the Mentor always appeared unexpectedly and always on foot. In the evening or at dawn, a tall figure in a purple robe and shepherd's sandals would emerge, and people would begin to flock to him from all sides. In... his unchanging calmness, simplicity, and imperturbable seriousness lay an irresistible magnetic force that attracted the hearts of people. He began his teachings at the moment when the sky blazes with sunset, and on the ground, bonfires are lit to drive away mosquitoes and prepare dinner, when the stifling heat subsides and a light breeze comes in, lifting spirits and giving strength to withstand the onslaught of misfortunes. He spoke of the simple and the important, about things that concerned and troubled everyone. About how their long-suffering country had been hit by droughts, epidemics, and swarms of snakes, while the government did nothing to alleviate the lives of fellow citizens, about how officials were robbing the already destitute people, and how the police and military merely assisted them in this. He declared that the Antichrist had already come into this world; and his name is the Republic. It is time to forget about immediate needs and devote the remaining time to saving the soul. It is time to gather an army for battle against the Antichrist.
