Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balkhi Rumi (1207–1273) - an Iranian poet, mystic, and jurist, who had a profound impact on the culture of the peoples of the Near and Middle East.
The pinnacle of Rumi's creativity was his poem "Masnavi" - an... unparalleled example of the didactic genre of Persian poetry. Conceived as a poetic (for ease of assimilation) guide for the Sufi community, the work has repeatedly transcended this concept due to the intellectual and poetic giftedness of its creator. For many centuries, "Masnavi" became a true encyclopedia of Muslim mysticism: it was read, memorized, and studied in a number of Islamic regions. The work gained even greater fame due to its artistic qualities and its truly universal universality: Rumi's complex philosophical concepts were embodied in the form of short parables, stories, and everyday tales, achieving remarkable clarity and elegance of language in the process.
This edition presents selected parables from the great poem in a contemporary poetic translation accompanied by commentaries that reveal the mysterious meanings of mystical monism.
