Mustang the Paced Horse

The remarkable Canadian writer, artist, and forest expert Ernest Seton-Thompson (1860-1946) kept a diary since childhood, and by the end of his life, he amassed fifty thick volumes in leather bindings. Only a small portion of what he observed and... sketched turned into the beloved stories about animals that captivated young and adult readers alike. Seton-Thompson became the world's first author to feature real animals and birds as protagonists. Before that, as he writes in his autobiography, there were "only fables, tales about animals, and stories where animals spoke and behaved as though they were humans dressed in the skins of beasts."
