Practical Course of General Translation of the Chinese Language. Part 1

The first part of the textbook "Practical Course of General Translation of the Chinese Language" is a component of the Universal Multimedia Educational and Methodological Complex (UMC). It is intended to develop students' competencies in written and oral translation types;... to master methods, techniques, and technology of translation as a whole; to foster responsibility for the accurate formulation of translated texts using the native language (the language of translation); and to expand background knowledge in area studies. The book consists of five lessons, each of which is divided into three or four didactic blocks depending on the number of educational texts. Each didactic block includes texts, a lexical minimum, linguistic and semantic commentary where necessary, as well as a system of exercises. Each lesson consists of two systematically interrelated modules — Module No. 1 and Module No. 2. The purpose of Module No. 1 is primarily to teach written translation, while Module No. 2 is designed to develop students' competencies in oral types of translation — consecutive, bilateral, synchronous — through the systematic formation of necessary skills, psychophysiological mechanisms, and personal qualities. Special attention is given to improving mnemonic techniques, developing listening skills, switching ability, probabilistic forecasting, concentration of attention, and translation endurance. At the end of the first part of the UMC, there is an alphabetical index of lexical units included in the lexical minimum and lexical units commented on in the corresponding lessons, as well as a dictionary of stable phrases and expressions.
