The Little Tramp

The desperate poverty of the father, endless quarrels in the family, and beatings from the eternally drunk stepmother force Jim to run away from home and become a vagabond. The homeless boy sleeps with his friends in the slums of London, sleeping on the damp ground. During the day, he makes a living on the streets, stealing whatever comes to hand or feeding on scraps. A lucky chance helps the boy escape poverty and start an honest working life.
The story of the little tramp, who has experienced all the hardships of a wandering life, poverty, fear, and loneliness, is told by the classic of English children's literature James Greenwood (1833-1929) and is widely known in Russia. The book has gone through more than forty editions in our country and has always been warmly received by readers.
