Clifford D. Simak is one of the founding fathers of modern science fiction, a towering writer who made it possible for the concept of the "golden age of sci-fi" to exist in American literature. He worked in various directions of... the genre, but his greatest fame—and the love of several generations of readers—came from works in which his own unique style is visible, a style that critics called soft, humanistic, and even pastoral.
