1978 Doctor Helen Hildret owns the Shelter, a psychiatric clinic where she is engaged in some important scientific work. Her grandchildren Vi and Eric spend their days nearby the Shelter, watching classic horror movies and playing "monster hunt." "Because monsters... are everywhere," Vi is sure. When Helen brings home Iris, their new sister, Vi and Eric quickly include her in the game, although Iris seems strange and is silent most of the time. To find out about Iris's past, they decide to seek answers at the Shelter. In the present day, Lizzie Shelly, host of the popular blog and podcast "Monsters Among Us," goes to the site of the disappearance of a teenage girl who was allegedly kidnapped by a monster from the lake. Lizzie intends to solve this case. "Because monsters are everywhere" - she is sure. And there are too many coincidences with other similar disappearances in this story.
