The Irish writer and journalist Maeve Binchy (1940–2012) is well known not only in her homeland but throughout the world. Binchy's works, in addition to short stories, include 16 novels, and her books have consistently become bestsellers and have repeatedly received prestigious international awards. In the 1970s, Binchy published three collections of short stories, quite successfully, but true fame came to her after the release of her first novel "Light a Candle" (1982).
