Great Muslim Empires. The History of Islamic States in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa

The book reflects the scientific views of leading European scholars in Oriental studies on the history of Muslim empires in the 15th–19th centuries. Alongside studies devoted to the rise and fall of great powers and ruling dynasties of the Near and Middle East, the processes occurring on the periphery of the Islamic world are examined. For instance, Professor Berthold Spuler describes the spread of Islam to the north, analyzing the situation in the Bukhara Khanate, Kokand, and Khiva under the late Timurids. The book also includes materials dedicated to the formation of states in Northwestern and Equatorial Africa, the history of Iran during the Safavid dynasty, and the last three centuries of India's independence under the Great Mughals.
