Fairy Tales

Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1900) is a famous Irish poet, playwright, and writer. Two collections of his fairy tales, "The Happy Prince and Other Tales" (1888) and "The House of Pomegranates" (1891), were warmly received by readers and critics: Wilde... was praised both for brilliantly recreating the magical spirit of folk tales and for his exquisite narrative style. The first collection is marked by external simplicity and creates the feeling of a story being told — rather than written. In the second collection, the tales are longer and more complex, the language is more ornate, and they are more adult — and darker. The collection includes all of Wilde's tales: "The Happy Prince," "The Nightingale and the Rose," "The Selfish Giant," "The Devoted Friend," "The Remarkable Rocket," "The Young King," "The Birthday of the Infanta," "The Fisherman and His Soul," and "The Star-Child." All the stories are published in English without abridgment and adaptation.
