To create it, the writer studied many folk legends, became acquainted with the works of Swedish scientists on botany, zoology, geology, cartography, architecture and history, and also traveled throughout the country. This edition presents a free retelling by Z. Zadunaiskaya and A. Lyubarskaya, in which there are no detailed geographical and ethnographic descriptions, but the magical story of the growing up of the main character Nils remains. A nasty, cocky, cruel boy, having gone through many tests, will learn to be friends, help the weak, become more honest and kinder.
