The Fall of the Macedonian Kingdom

After the defeat in the Second War with Rome, the Macedonian kings restored the strength of the country and challenged the republic again. Initially, military fortune favored the Macedonian arms, and the Romans suffered setbacks. But then everything changed; on June 22, 168 BC, at the Battle of Pydna, King Perseus's army was defeated, and the basileus himself was captured.
The Third Macedonian War marked a turning point in the history of the Eastern Mediterranean. The confrontation between legion and phalanx ended, and there was no longer a force in the Oikoumene capable of stopping the Roman advance to the east. The Macedonian kingdom was divided by the invaders into four republics, which subsequently became Roman provinces.
