The Poetics of Chekhov

Aleksandr Pavlovich Chudakov (1938—2005) was a well-known literary critic and writer, the largest researcher of Anton Chekhov's work.
In the monograph "The Poetics of Chekhov," he considers the entire work of the writer as a holistic system, describing the properties of its various levels—from the tangible to the ideological—based on the statistical material he collected. The relationships between characters and the narrator, the selection of plots, and the means of detailing the artistic space come under the careful gaze of the researcher.
