Magical Petersburg, 1982. Emperor Alexander V rules Russia. The country retains the estates and traditions of pre-revolutionary Russia. Besides humans, the world is inhabited by divas – intelligent magical creatures that penetrate from the Wasteland through a portal. They obey... humans but go out of control at the scent of blood or weakness from their master.
Count Averin investigates the murder of a noble son, for which divas are accused. He understands that this is not the first murder and that a very powerful diva is behind the crimes. At the same time, a huge demonic cat appears in Petrograd.

Sorcerer Count Hermes Averin, a private detective living in Saint Petersburg. At the beginning of the novel, he has a prejudiced attitude towards divas, considering them emotionless creatures that only dream of devouring their master, but he re-evaluates his views as the story progresses.
