Can time be turned back? The mysterious ambitious mystifier Gaustin believes it can. With this goal in mind, he opens the world's first "Return of the Past" center. This institution offers an unusual method for treating patients with Alzheimer's disease. Each floor of the building accurately reproduces a certain decade, allowing people to resurrect memories that seem to be forever lost.

As Gaustin's assistant, the narrator eagerly participates in the game, collecting authentic remnants of the past—from 1960s furniture, buttons, and shirts from the 1940s to nostalgic scents. But as the reenactment becomes more convincing, more healthy people begin to approach the clinic to escape the deadlock of everyday life; the future no longer attracts anyone, everyone wants to return to the past.
